The North Dakota AFL-CIO will strive
to increase the ability of working men and women to raise their incomes,
their hopes and their respect, and most importantly, to bring economic
justice to the workplace and social justice to North Dakota.
Just as in the early days, North Dakota
union members strive for:
A Living Wage |
A Safe Workplace |
Health and Welfare and Retirement
Benefits |
Job Security and Respect |
We consider these to be essential elements
in order that our society prospers and grows.
The structure and operation of the North
Dakota AFL-CIO has seen some recent change.
The governing body is the Executive
Council, comprised of one elected representative or Vice President from
each of the 32 different unions operating in North Dakota. Between
conventions the Council has the authority to:
Direct affairs of the organization. |
Make rules and establish by-laws for the
purpose of expediting the work of the Council (labor movement). |
Two other working committees of the North
Dakota AFL-CIO are the:
COPE Committee - Consisting of one member
from each affiliated union. This Committee recommends political
candidates for office and produces the North Dakota AFL-CIO campaign
plan for local union approval and implementation. |
Executive
Council - the President,
Secretary-Treasurer and three Trustees, elected by the membership,
oversee the financial operation of the organization. |
